Multi- tabling

Ask any online poker player why they prefer the online environment to that offered by a brick and mortar casino and you will probably get many different answers. Some like the peace and quiet of playing at home while others just like being able to play literally whenever they want. Whatever reasons you hear, there is one that simply cannot be denied and that is when you play online poker you can simply play so many more hands per hour that your win rate essentially skyrockets over that of a brick and mortar casino. Now, bring in the fact that you can play more than one table at a time, and we are talking about huge money. Multi-tabling is not for everyone though, there are some very important considerations and strategies to take into account before you go trying to play eight tables at once.

 Win at one first…

Despite the fact that multi-tabling can dramatically up the amount of money you make per hour, it is essential that you first learn how to win at one table! Playing more than one table at a time requires a significant amount of concentration and skill. If you are lacking in either department your game will suffer significantly. One of the quickest ways to lose a lot of money in poker is to multi table before you have the skill or the knowledge of the game to do so.

…Then progress slowly!

Okay so now you have what it takes to beat one table. That’s great, some players never find profit at poker, give yourself a pat on the back! Here is where you can start moving on to more than one table. Start slowly at first by simply adding another table of the same stakes. Two tables is something you can get comfortable with pretty fast, but again lets make sure we have a good win rate there before we move onto even more tables.

At this point we will want to pick up some other strategies that will help with multi-tabling. One very important thing to the multi table player is keeping good track of their opposition. Because you are going to be playing so many tables at once you are going to need a good way to keep track of your opponents. While using the note taking software that most online poker rooms have is a great start, you probably will want to consider some more high powered database style software that can actually evaluate your opponents for you. This will greatly increase your chances of being highly profitable when you multi table. Because you will be seeing so many different faces, it’s unlikely your memory will be able to pin each ones playing style like you might have been able to when you were playing just one table.

In closing, it is important you keep a close tab on you playing statistics while multi tabling. After playing on six tables for a month or so, you might find that your win rate is actually half of what it was when you were playing four tables. Numbers like this will make  you realize that you might be more comfortable playing less tables, or you need more practice before you are ready for a higher amount of tables. Just be sure to work  your way up, keep a sound eye on your opponents and your statistics and you should do just fine making lots of money multi tabling at online poker.
