Poker rake and rakeback

What is rake?

Rake is the fee that pokersites on the intenet aswell as real casinos takes from the players. Usually it is a certain percentage from the pot that is taken as a fee, but on casinos it can occur that you pay a fee for ex. every hour you play or a combination of both ways. Rake for tournaments is usually 10% of the buy in. For cashgames on internet the rake is often 5% per pot up to $3 as a maximum, tough some sites has a maximum of $1.

It may not seem like a lot of money, but when you think about how many hands you play in a moth it adds up. Even at lower-stakes players can pay hundreds of dollars in rake every month. The solution to decrease this fee is to get rakeback.

What is rakeback?

Rakeback is a refund of the rake that you pay to the pokersite. How large this refund vary, but normally the rakeback is about 30-40% of what you pay in rake.

Pokersites uses a number of methods to calculate each players rake-contribution to a pot, each method effects your rakeback in a different way. The methods that exist is Dealt rake (also called rake share or shared rake), Contributed rake and Weighted rake (also called paid rake or actual paid rake).

If the dealt rake-method is used, the rake is split equal between every player that is dealt cards in the hand no matter if you contribute any money to the pot or not.

Contributed rake is the most common method, only the players that contribute money to the pot gets a refund of the rake that is taken as a fee. So if you fold without contributing any money to the pot you also don’t get any rakeback for that pot. The active players that has contributed to the pot gets a equal share of the rakeback no matter how much they have contributed, as long as they have contributed something.

The maybe most fair method is the Weighted contributed rake-method, the pokersites that uses this method calculate exactly how much a players share is in a pot in regard to the money he has contributed. So for an example if a player contributes with a forth of the pot he also pays a forth of the fee for the pot and therefore gets a higher refund. Of course the player who dosen’t contribute with anything to a pot dosen’t get to be a part of the rakeback from the pot.

Why should I take advantage of rakeback-deals?

Well, why not? Rakeback gives you a refund of the money that you otherwise would lose, there are no excuses to not use rakeback-deals if the possibility exist. For active players rakeback can be a important part in their gaming, through rakeback a losing month can become a winning month. The rakeback for a active player at higher stakes can be many thousands of dollars, to calculate approximately how much you could earn with rakeback you can use our rakeback-calculator that you find to the right on the main page.
